Time For You To Write to Heal

You want to write. You’ve always wanted to write.

Maybe you’ve kept a journal for years. Or, maybe you’ve been too worried that people would read your deepest darkest secrets so you’ve collected a bunch of notebooks, but never actually wrote a word in them.

But you have ideas. You have things to say.

You’re often lost in your thoughts and wish you could share them to build better connections with people in your life. You want to understand the what and why behind situations that are making you uneasy.

Together, we can explore what happens when you get your cares, worries and stories out of your head and onto a page.

Time For You To Write to Heal is about being curious and experimenting with what it means to write and see what healing occurs when your internal musings are unleashed.

What can you learn about yourself? What do you need, and want, once you recognize your truth?

Shall we find out together?

This is for you if you enjoy:

  • Putting a pen to paper. (Even if you don’t get to do it often.)

  • Telling stories.

  • Expressing your thoughts clearly in support of something you care about, or against something that you believe is harmful.

  • Thinking things through to gain a better understanding.

  • Learning new things.

It isn’t for you if you:

  • Only want to learn how to become a published author of your work.

  • Would like to receive feedback on your writing style, grammar or punctuation.

  • Really hate writing. (But thanks for reading this far!)

I'll share my writing practice, and how it's been instrumental in my own healing.

And when I talk about healing, I'm not referring to a cure. I mean that it helps me be my best advocate, change patterns that aren't helpful and brings me closer to my true self.

Really, it’s changed how I feel about myself, the situations I find myself in, and deepened my relationships.

Who knew a simple writing practice could help you step more into your power and remind you what you’re capable of so that you can show up for yourself in ways you never thought possible?

Why work with me?

My world completely changed when I received a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis. I was terrified of what to expect in the future, and how it would affect my relationships with my family, and friends.

I was suffering not only physically, but also emotionally. I was grieving my old self, and what I expected beyond the present day.

All of this occurred while navigating a medical system that often didn’t consider the very real person who was now trying to figure out how to move forward after receiving a devastating blow. Never mind watching my independence slowly slip away and having to rely on others for help.

Reluctantly, I returned to my creative art and writing practices at first to distract me from my pain. But I quickly realized that writing helped me organize the millions of thoughts that wouldn’t stop spinning in my mind.

Writing my way through my diagnosis, and subsequent months after, helped me see that rheumatoid arthritis had given me a gift.

Not one that I would have willingly signed up for... however my writing practice helped me see the gift that it was beyond its shitty package.

Writing helped me dive deeper into remembering who I am at my core, and what is truly important to me.

I’m forever grateful that it helped me take stock of my priorities and feel confident to make changes for the betterment of my health and my family’s. I practiced using my voice in my writing to strengthen myself to deal with the people I needed to so that I could manage my disease.

It’s also helped me keep my sanity while dealing with continued health challenges, family issues, parenting stuff, deaths and other major stressful situations that could have sent me to a really dark place.

Writing helps me navigate my way THROUGH things.

Want to experience the healing benefits of your own writing practice?

I’m here to help. I’ve done the work. I’m still doing the work. And I want to share with you how it has fueled my own healing and recovery so that you can develop your own writing practice that you’ll stick to!

As a result of this Course you’ll:

  • Find new ways to reduce your stress.

  • Feel empowered to bravely write about your experiences.

  • Know how to deal with emotions that may come up while writing.

  • Prioritize your writing practice in ways that fit your lifestyle.

You’ll develop a plan and a practice that will give you back your sense of self, repair damage from your past and assert your individuality and authority.

What to Expect

When we gather, you’ll have some time to actually write!

Your writing is for you, and you alone. However, there will be some time during the live workshops for a few people to share what they wrote (if they choose).

If you’re not sure what to write about, don’t worry! You’ll be given ways to work with your fear of the blank page in front of you, and ideas to spark your imagination.

I’m intent on facilitating a space where you feel welcomed, and brave to go through this process in a way that works best for you.

There’s no right or wrong.

Be open to the shifts that naturally occur when you show up for yourself, and those who choose to gather with you, as you gain insights into your way of thinking and feeling.

There’s freedom in getting to know yourself better!

We begin on (THIS COURSE WILL RETURN IN EARLY 2020) when we will meet live on Zoom. As long as you have a reliable internet connection, you can be anywhere in the world. Bring your curiosity, something to write with, something to write on and a beverage of your choosing.

After our first session together, we’ll meet again on Zoom on (THIS COURSE WILL RETURN IN EARLY 2020) to continue our writing momentum and to further build connection with your practice and with the group who gathers. That’s four workshops in total and lots of time for you to write, be seen and heard (if you choose) and tap into the wisdom of the group.

A recording will go out to all participants within 24 - 48 hours after each live workshop. If you’re able, do yourself a favour and show up on time on our scheduled dates. This way you can tap into the wisdom of the group!

During the course, you’ll also be sent a weekly email on Tuesdays to cheer you on and offer additional resources and prompts to keep you writing in ways that feel best to you. This is your chance to experiment with support. Additional prompts and topics to consider will be offered during our time together. Take what resonates. How can you tweak what doesn’t?

Date, Time & Location

We will use Zoom video conferencing to meet virtually.

In addition to our virtual sessions, you will be sent more tips, prompts and things to consider via email every week so that you can continue practicing what you started in the live workshops.

Where: Zoom video conferencing

This is a free software that needs to be downloaded to your computer. It’s simple to do and only takes a few seconds. Once you are sent the link to join our meeting room, you click on it and you will be asked to download the Zoom software. This is safe and takes only a few seconds. Zoom also may ask you for permission to access your computer’s camera (if you have one on your computer) and microphone. You can click yes for both of these.

The Zoom link for the meeting room will be sent out approximately one week before the workshop on {month, day}.

A recording will be sent out within 24 - 48 hours after each workshop ends. The recordings will only be available for a limited time (approximately 4 weeks after our last session).

What to bring:

  • Something to write on… a notebook or notepad is recommended

  • Something to write with… pen or pencil (your choice)

NOTE: If using a pen & paper isn’t ideal for you, then bring something to type on and with. The goal of this workshop is to get your thoughts out of your head. Olwen will talk about different ways to do that too.

Please read my Terms & Policies if you have questions about your purchase.

IMPORTANT: This workshop is not a substitute for medical attention, examination, treatment or therapy.

For a long time, I wanted to write. But, I convinced myself that I couldn’t do it. I wasn't good enough, and I didn’t have time. Luckily, my desire to write never left. Not doing it just frustrated me. So I focused more on what it does for me than being worried about what someone else MAY think of me and my writing. Because at the end of the day, it’s me and my writing that makes me happy.

If you’ve had similar experiences, let’s explore how you too can write to heal.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much will I have to write?

As much or as little as you want! I’ll provide some guidelines and share what has worked for me. You get to try them out to determine your preference.

I’ve benefitted from writing for only a few minutes a day to writing for longer periods a couple of times a week. I’ll help you figure out what will work for your lifestyle, energy and interest.

What if I can’t attend all four virtual workshops?

Everyone who has signed up will receive a recording of the workshops within 24 - 48 hours of them ending. Of course you can watch the recordings at a later time. However, they will only be available for approximately four weeks after this course ends.

Why are we meeting every other week?

To give you space and time to process and write. You’ll get weekly emails of support and can email me at anytime during the course if you have questions.

Do I need to be local to you to participate?

Not at all. As long as you have an internet connection, you can be anywhere in the world.

Do I have to join a private Facebook group?

Nope. There isn’t one for this course. You’re writing for yourself but you can share your words with the group when we meet in the Zoom meeting room if you choose.

Do you offer refunds?

No. Classes and workshops are difficult to return. Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

I really enjoyed myself. I found the energy and excitement you brought and the ideas you gave to be very helpful. You held space for us beautifully and encouraged us to push through resistance but always respect the current place where we are. So refreshing!!
